Season 40 Draft Review

Baton Rouge, LA - The old adage is you can't examine a draft until five years afterward. With the season 45 draft just days away, it is useful to examine the season 40 draft and see what the results were, particularly with the obsession of lido9613 with the exploits of Torey Owen.

Here are some bullet points:

  • There are presently 46 players from this draft in the Majors. (chart below)

  • Remarkably the first twenty players selected are all presently in the majors.

  • Of those 46 players, 35 were drafted in the first round or the supplemental first round.

  • Just six players of the 46 were drafted outside round 3.

  • The lowest pick to make it to the majors was the 829th pick in the draft by Seattle (NodakJuggalo), Madison Eckenstahler, who made it up despite not being a DITR.

  • Montreal (Arte) and Washington (TenaciousTYT) have four present major leaguers from this draft.

  • The best player in the draft thus far is Zeke Bell who when called up last year was named Rookie of the Year, winning a Gold Glove and a Silver Slugger.
