Yount Most Valuable Player
A compelling argument could have been made for several candidates this past year. Mullin remained the driving force behind the World Champion Brewers, Milliard continued to deliver exceptional performances early in his career, and Maduro led the Rays to the World Series during a free-agent year. Ultimately, Uehara transformed the fortunes of the franchise by securing the Red Sox their first playoff berth after signing a five-year, $71.2 million contract in the offseason. Having spent his entire career in Detroit and appearing to be a future Hall of Famer, Uehara moved within the division and has become a crucial component in the Twins' resurgence.
Yount Cy Young
This award was a clear decision. Guillen demonstrated exceptional performance, achieving a career peak at the age of 34. Currently regarded as a borderline Hall of Fame candidate, Guillen will likely need to conclude his career on a high note to enhance his prospects for induction. Alongside his teammate, the first-ballot Hall of Famer Julian Pena, the Cardinals possess an impressive 1-2 combination at the top of their rotation. Guillen was one of the most sought-after international free agents in history, securing a $25.2 million contract in Season 42 with the Boston Red Sox, under the ownership of Rod33 at that time. He was traded to Louisville in Season 48 and later signed as a free agent with St. Louis in Season 54.
Yount Rookie of the Year
Wallace was promoted to the major leagues in Season 56, where he made three relief appearances. In Season 57, he excelled significantly, achieving the rare feat of winning both the NL Rookie of the Year and the NL Cy Young Award, a distinction shared by many legendary players. Wallace is part of a young core of Diamondbacks talent developed through the draft, having been selected as the 6th overall pick in the Season 54 draft from Hudson Valley Community College. With several more years of team control, Wallace is poised to become one of the premier pitchers in the National League.
Yount Fireman of the Year
He is not your Roenis, he's not her Roenis; he is our Roenis. Santiago has rapidly distinguished himself as the premier reliever in the National League. In his first two seasons, he achieved 40 saves each season, with only six blown saves. Drafted 32nd overall in the Season 52 draft from Kettering High School in Detroit, Michigan, by the Florida Marlins, Santiago was traded alongside Willie Morales to the Guardians for Harry Quentin. While Quentin performed consistently with the Marlins, Santiago is experiencing a remarkable start at a young age.
